Long story short, I’ve decided to make my own “The Julie/Julia Project blog”. I bet you have seen this movie. It’s called “Julie & Julia” starring Amy Adams and Meryl Streep. If yes, have you ever wanted to start something like Julie did on your own? If the answer is no, then please watch it. It’s one of those movies that leave you smiling and thinking good about yourself even if you had a creepy day.

Why Julie and Julia Project blog?
I’ve mentioned before on my about page that I wanted to start a food blog for a long time, but because of my bad relationship with food I’ve always postponed it. I couldn’t imagine myself experimenting in the kitchen, trying different recipes, and being surrounded all the time by tons of butter and sugar. If I’m being honest, it still scares me a lot. But one person once told me: sometimes your biggest fear is your true desire. And I’m here to try it. I don’t know what will be the outcome. The one thing I know is that I’m excited to start.
Julie’s story inspired me. See, we have many things in common, me and Julie. We both feel lost in our lives, we always doubt ourselves, and we both can cry hysterically sitting on the floor next to the ruined piece of chicken. Most importantly we never finish things we started. I can relate to this 100%. Even food blogging. I’ve had many attempts to consistently run one but they all finished just after one published post.
Therefore now I want to try again. This time making it a) ethical, b) consistent, and c) enjoyable. Ethical means no negative self-talk and not beating myself up for no comments, engagement, etc. Consistent means regular bi-weekly posting, starting with just one recipe per week. Finally, enjoyable refers to doing it slowly and listening to my body and mind.
What’s going to be? No one knows, but I hope it’ll be something I’ll be proud of. I know it will be.
Now, let’s get to the details aka feeling inspired by Julie’s original post back in 2002
The Book:
“Dessert Person”. First edition, 2020. Written by Claire Saffitz, former Bon Appétit food editor and freelance recipe developer. This book has been written for anyone who wants to learn how to bake, and as Claire states herself, it is “a defense of baking”. What I liked about it is the attention to detail, seasonality, and difficulty separation. It makes it easier for amateur bakers like myself to guide through it, and learn how to bake with confidence. Isn’t that what I’m looking for? It definitely is.
The Contender:
Late twenties unemployed former financial analyst with lots of free time and absolutely no clue what to do with that. Most importantly, this blogger is always doubting and bringing herself down. Let’s not mention the difficult relationship with food. I’d say it’s a pretty good combo for an aspiring food blogger. What do you think?
The Project:
243 days and 89 recipes (the deadline is the end of the year). One girl, one red Kitchen Aid mixer, and a great companion, a Shiba-Inu Mushu.

Final notes
So, here I am. Not risking my marriage or my dog’s life but instead trying to find peace with food and herself through baking, writing, and photography. Hopefully one day the final 89th recipe will be published. According to the book, it’s going to be pull-apart sour cream and chives rolls.
Join me on this journey aka “The Julie/Julia Project blog” . I’ll be happy to see you along the way.
